I have a .NET application set up to use Windows Authentication in IIS 7.5 (server 2008R2 sp1) that has been working fine for months. Local Windows users could authenticate and domain Windows users could authenticate. Over the weekend, we lost the ability for domain users to authenticate but local users can still authenticate fine. I can still operate on the domain from this server and there are no netlogon errors - so I believe that the computer is still properly registered on the domain.
Changing the application pool user from ApplicationPoolIdentity to NetworkUser resolves the issue of network users not authenticating. However, I would like to figure out why this issue occurred after working flawlessly for months. Any suggestions on how to continue troubleshooting this issue?
