Hi All,

I am using Web Platform Installer 5.1 in order to install Web Deploy 3.6. I keep getting errors and looks like some other component is braking the installation. I am not sure exactly what is the root cause sine there are few problems according to the logs.

1)The user dont have permission to start WMSvc

2)Unable to deploy NET 3.5 for Windows 8'

I am using a VM Windows Server 2019

Please advice.

Request Rate Limiting in IIS by url

In my application I want to limit the request to the login page of my website to be processed by server and if the request increases by specific number then IIS should block that ip address for some time. I have gone through IIS 'IP Address and Domain Restrictions' feature but I want to block the request if the request comes  for the login page not for any other page and operation on my website. How can we achieve this using IIS?

Odd Problem in IIS 10

I had an forum working well in 2012 server, I then upgraded it to 2019 server and everything is working fine except file upload. I'm getting the error 'fopen(): Filename cannot be empty' I have gone in and doubled check the upload_dir for php.ini and even recreated a different folder, made sure IUSR and IIS_IUSRS had read write on the folder, moved the folder out of C: to Documents, nothing has worked. PHP is 7.1 and have fileinfo enabled as well. Like i said it was working like a champ.

Am i missing something in 2019 server IIS 10? Any idea's on anything else i can try?

CSS problems after Windows 10 Pro Update

$

Hi

I'm running Windows 10 Pro, version 1809 (17763.503). I'm converting an old Classic asp site to a .Net C# Razor site. Consequently, I need access to the old asp site to review functionality before recoding it. I have built the Classic asp site on my development laptop and all has been running well for years now. The site is running in production at a few clients and also on my demo web site which is hosted by my ISP. All sites are working except the development site on my laptop running Windows 10 Pro.

The problem (for those not wanting to read my thesis below):  After implementing the Windows update my Classic ASP site stopped rendering Bootstrap 3 (and 4) style sheets and images. No errors are displayed, just the web site's text, links and controls are displayed without any styling.  All database work is unaffected and working.

Some weeks ago (24 April to be exact) Windows prompted me to install an upgrade which I duly did - to version 1809 (17763.503). The upgrade went smoothly but immediately afterwards I noticed that the old Classic asp site on my dev laptop stopped working in Edge, IE11, FF or Chrome. Specifically, it was taking 30 seconds or more to open the site, not rendering the css (I use a version of Bootstrap 3 called Smarty which I purchased for its themes) and when it eventually displays the home page, on clicking the link to navigate to the log in page, that page fails to load. No real coding error is ever displayed except that the page normally says something like "The page cannot be displayed" and "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" or "INET_E_DOWNLOAD FAILURE", depending on the browser. All is OK with the database connection and data calls etc. so its not a database error or connection error.

I contacted Microsoft Help Desk and after being handed over through 5 different consultants (I'm bald now from tearing my hear out) and hours of watching them fiddle here and there on my laptop, they couldn't explain it so they just arrogantly ended it all by saying they've tested their software extensively and are satisfied that it is working and therefore the problem must lie with my application. I don't buy it because minutes before I applied the Windows upgrade my Classic asp app was working in ALL browsers, and just minutes after the upgrade it was failing in ALL browsers. The cynic in me says that Microsoft has deliberately started introducing changes that will culminate in them stopping support for Classic ASP and this is their way of forcing change. Incidentally, the new Razor site is running with the same Bootstrap and database and is running well.

Event viewer reports this error in "System" but I can't seem to see what triggers it throughout the day and I don't know it it's related. I tried one suggestion to change the permissions on the APPID but that didn't change anything: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {8E240CF7-3017-494D-877D-7D19548A3142} and APPID {F72671A9-012C-4725-9D2F-2A4D32D65169} to the user ACER\hende SID (S-1-5-21-1995079702-3253873399-167814391-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

So what else have I tried?

  • Tweaking various browser settings, deleting the cached files & cookies etc.
  • * Tweaking various settings in IIS; deleting the web site and recreating it.
  • * Adding more features for "Internet Information Service" in "Turn Windows features on and off" in the hope that this would trigger some change to IIS on Windows 10 Pro. * Creating a new user with Admin rights.
  • * Running sfc /scannow. No errors were reported.
  • * Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth. No errors were reported.
  • * Downloading a fresh version of Windows 10 Pro iso and re-installing Windows.
  • * Flushing the DNS.
  • * Tested using other laptops running on Windows 10 and Windows 2008 Server, connecting via my local network to my development site, both work correctly using all browsers.
  • * Tested the production site of the Classic ASP app, which is published on the Internet (same code and database as I'm running on my development laptop), using my laptop and the others metioned above, and all work correctly. My conclusion therefore is that the problem doesn't lie with the browsers, or the Classic asp app's code or the css, but with the Windows 10 Pro OS that's failing to render style sheets correctly when served from the local ISS (localhost) to browsers on the local PC.
  • * If I exclude all FIVE links to css sheets in the app it responds and loads as quickly as normal (without styling of course).
  • * I created a new 1-page Classic asp test app/site to emulate the app's css link to the same relative css folder location as the Bootstrap css, but with a simple custom-made style sheet with one property in it, and database connection. The test app worked correctly.
  • * I then linked the test app to the FIVE Bootstrap css style sheets that the production app uses. The test app fails to render the css.
  • * I ran all the Bootstap style sheets through W3School's CSS Validation Service and fixed all reported errors. The error still persisted thereafter.
  • * I eliminated reference to all but the main style sheet and then placed a single custom css property at the very top so that I could see it rendered in the test app, and then deleted all other 8000 odd rows of the style sheet. No error was found. My custom property was visible and rendered correctly.
  • * I then incrementally added 100 rows of Bootstrap css code back and tested after each. Initially the error didn't occur, but after reaching around 2600 rows the error started occurring, but not consistently, so I was never able to actually pinpoint a specific css property that was causing the error. Even after rolling back 300 or more rows, the error persisted, despite the fact that it had previously worked with 2300 rows of css code. So this wasn't a reliable indicator at all. As a result, after hours of back and forth testing I gave up with this.
  • * I installed a new clean version of the Bootstrap 3 and then the Bootstrap 4 css product from the vendor, but the problem still remains. My conclusion, Windows 10 Pro version 1809 (17763.503), has a bug that prevents it from serving complex, long, multi-page, style sheets to browsers on the local PC. Surely I can't be the only one in the world to be experiencing this?
  • Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many problems using Web Deploy - hosting company does not know how to solve

$

Symptoms are as follows:

Validate connection works

From Solution Explorer I can publish a single file

When starting a  preview I see that the same file is in the list multiple times, each has a different timestamp. Some of these timestamps are 4 years old.

I can check one or all or some files and publishing fails with error message below.

Switching to a different publish profile (different site at the same hosting provider) works like it should.

Switching to a different publish profile (different hosting provider) works like it should.

I have been with this hosting provider for years and they have had Web Deploy issues off and on in the last 2 years. One day it works, few days later it stops working.

This one particular site has been problematic since 6 months. Only way to publish is file by file and that is causing some problems in the bin and packages folders where it is difficult to keep track what is changing.

Can the preview list be reset?

What is the best way to resolve this?

Hello. I'm using a load balanced mix of IIS 7.5 and 10 web servers.

I want to redirect any url that is going from one domain1.example.com/eweb to domain2.example.com/eweb. It has to only match the subdirectory of eweb for example.

I need to keep any parameters, query string, etc after the /eweb directory

Example:

domain1.example.com/eweb/startpage.aspx?randomstrings

redirect to

domain2.example.com/eweb/startpage.aspx?randomstrings

Post SSL Cert setup redirecting to wrong certificate, requiring port in URL

Hi all,

Going to try my best to be helpful with the description here, despite having little experience with IIS myself and not being the one to set up our SSL certificate, I've been tasked with figuring out why it won't work.

We have two SSL certificates set up - one for our company website, Company.com, and one for our web applications, with utilizes CN cmpsft.online. Two of our web applications - we'll say app2 and app3 - work fine. We utilize cmpsft.online:8443/app2 and cmpsft.online:8443/app3. The third, app1, doesn't function. When we initially go to URL cmpsft.online:8443/app3, it will send us to the site successfully, but navigating to any page of the app contained in a sub-folder in our directory gives us a 'common name invalid' error and says"This server could not prove that it is cmpsft.online; its security certificate is from www.company.com." (our main company site certificate). Additionally, when navigating to these pages, it attempts to send the user to (for example) https://cmpsft.online/app1/subfolder/subfolder2/page.asp. However if I manually input the port and change it to https://cmpsft.online:8443/app1/subfolder/subfolder2/page.asp, the page will pull up successfully.

All 3 web applications are under the 'default website' category in IIS. Behavior protocols are set to HTTPS, and everything is as it should be as far as I can tell (though as I've mentioned, I'm no expert here). I'd really appreciate any direction anyone here can give me.

WHY is PUT and POST, NOT working in ASP.NET Web API on clients?

$

Hi Guys

I hope someone will help me.  I have a web api application hostet on IIS on a windows 10 PC. On my website I use JQUERY and AJAX to GET,POST and PUT data to a SQL server 2012.  On the server PC the solution works fine. I can get data and i can send data to the SQL server. But on my client PC, which is on the same network ,only the GET request is working. POST and PUT request are denied with server errror 502.  I have tried everything for a week now. Still error 502. But for these two methods (PUT and POST) the server denies to set header to: access-control-allow-origin *. It does when I send a GET request from my client .

What have i done?

                                                1. Download of Cors module failed

                                                2. No "Http Response Header" in ISS feature view

                                                3. I have download CORS in Github

                                                4. Enabled CORS in config file and in controller folder

                                                5. I have download extension to chrome browser for acces-control-allow.origen

Solution: It seems, that the solution is to install CORS module. To do that, you need IIS 7.0. I have server 2012 express install with IIS 6.0. I can't find any information  on how to upgrade to version 7.0.  Any suggestions? Use another free webserver?

Solution II: After installing windows PRO, and reinstalling IIS, it was possible to download and install CORS Module.

THERE IS STILL ONE ERROR: ON THE CLIENTS THE PUT REQUEST IN THE WEB API IS STILL NOT WORKING !!

URL Rewrite - Postback Problem

Hi,
I am very, very frustrated!!! Several days ago, I have implemented a reverse proxy. I have enabled URL Rewrite into my IIS Server
S1 (help.tgspeedy.it) and I rewrite url from S1 to S2 (BRAMIERI), a DNN 07.02.00 server. "All" works fine, but when I go to the UsersAccount Page, when I click the Search Button, nothing happens and the browser console, list several errors, as you can view into attachment file. If I click the "All" link or any other "letter", I can view rightly the list of people.
Where is the problem?!?!?
This is my URL rule

Trying to install Wordpress, WPI spins forever

have tried for about a week to install the 5-minute wordpress.   I had installed it back in 2017, possibly with mamp or ? but now need it for use with a VS project.  This is a fast machine, 8 cores, 16G with 100mb/sec internet and starting wordpress MANY hours ago? its still where it was "installing"

Ive gone thru and deleted any and everything related to the old install.  I can run the MySql installer and it says it finished, but could not get the panel to work to set it up

deleted that install, what else is there?  Here is the log.  The Java JDK was deleted by someone for security but what is causing this? well...  I just need wordpress running a week ago, how to make it run under IIS ?

I have a server 2016 system running dynamics nav.  The secure server component refuses to start after installing a renewed cert.  Searching around seems to point to a permissions issue but nothing applies to iis10.  Any ideas?

PS Script to pull Sites from IIS

I am working on a Powershell script to run against IIS servers.  I am trying to return the Hostname and URL.   I am running into an issue getting the URL the server is hosting.  Below are two the different routes I have taken so far (WMI and Get-Website)

PS WMI

Get-WmiObject -authentication 6 -class "IIsWebServerSetting" -namespace "root\microsoftiisv2" | select-object __SERVER, ServerComment, Name

**************************************

PS using Get-Website

$WebsiteData = Get-Website

$Webobj = New-Object PSObject

$Webobj | Add-Member NoteProperty -Name "Name" -Value $env:COMPUTERNAME
$Webobj | Add-Member NoteProperty -Name "WebsiteName" -Value ($WebsiteData.Name -join ',')
$Webobj | Add-Member NoteProperty -Name "Bindings" -Value ($WebsiteData.Bindings -join ",")

write-output $Webobj | export-CSV -path C:\temp\Website_Test.csv -NoTypeInformation
